Attendance information – Important

IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE UPDATE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

 Dear parent/carer,

I would like to update you with our latest attendance procedures and some important dates for the academic year ahead.

Absence due to Covid

If your child is self-isolating due Covid symptoms you must inform school immediately.  We do expect you to either order a home test or to book an appointment at your local Test Centre ASAP. If your child’s test is negative they will be able to return to school as soon as they are feeling well.  However, if your child test is positive they will need to self-isolate for 10 days from the onset of symptoms. If positive you must provide school with evidence of the positive result.  Failure to do this will result in your child being marked unauthorised for the duration of their absence, which could result in a referral to The Local Authority Attendance Team. Your child does not need to self-isolate should a member of their family test positive.

Medical / Dental Appointments

There has been an increase in children being collected for medical/dental appointments during school hours, particularly on a Friday. You must provide school with a copy of your child’s medical/dental appointment letter. If your child’s appointment is an emergency and you do not have an appointment letter/card, please provide a copy of your child’s treatment plan. If the appointment is for yourself (parent/carer) please try and make alternative arrangements for your child to be collected from school. Unfortunately if no appointment letter or treatment plan is provided we will not be able to authorise any missed sessions.

Late arrivals

Thank you for bearing with us with the adjustments Mrs Martin has had to implement to the usual morning timings during these difficult times.  We hope you will agree that our staggered intake on a morning has worked really well and we have received a lot of positive feedback that you are finding the staggered drop off times of benefit.  We do expect your child to be in school during the staggered period of time 8.45am to 8.55am.  Gates close promptly at 8.55am.  We would like to avoid entering school late at our main reception as this really does have an impact on not only your child’s learning but the learning of others in their class also and the disruption this causes. Please ensure your child arrives to school on time!

Holidays during term time

We do not authorise holidays in term time.  The law does not grant parents an automatic right to take their child out of school during term time. We strongly advise that it is in your child’s best interest not to miss part of their valuable education.  Holiday requests will only be considered for exceptional circumstances only at the discretion of Mrs Martin Head Teacher.

Attendance Initiatives are back!

For all of our new starters (Reception to Year 6), you will not be aware of our amazing Attendance Initiatives in school as we have not been able to implement these during the last 2 years due to the pandemic.  However, these initiatives are back this year and here is a list of our important attendance dates:

Monday 8th November 2021 to Friday 12th November 2021 – ATTEND TO ACHIEVE WEEK! If your child attends school all week they will receive a treat bag on Thursday 18th November 2020.

Week beginning Monday 1st November 2021 – Your child will return home with a green, amber or red certificate.  This is to make you aware of your child’s attendance percentage on a half termly basis.  A red colour certificate indicates that your child’s attendance is below 90% and this is of concern.  I may have already spoken to you about this and implemented measures to support you in ensuring your child attends school regularly.  An amber certificate indicates your child’s attendance is 90-96% and is being monitored. A green certificate indicates your child is 96% or over which is in line with the National average of 96% or above – well done! Your child will receive a colour certificate every half term.

Friday 7th January 2022 – A Special Attendance Assembly takes place in school to present certificates to our 100% Autumn Term attenders.  If your child has managed to attend school every day for a whole term (autumn) they will receive a Bronze Certificate during this assembly!

Tuesday 4th January 2022 to 31 January 2022 – ATTEND TO ACHIEVE MONTH! This initiative is similar to Attend to Achieve Week for a whole month. Charts are placed in your child’s class and on a daily basis your child will tick the chart next to their name.  Each child who attends school every day in January will receive their reward on Thursday 3rd February 2022.  This reward is usually quite special and in the past it has been a bouncy castle session, yoga session or musician.

Friday 29th April 2022 – A Special Attendance Assembly takes place in school to present certificates to our 100% Spring Term attenders.  If your child has managed to attend school every day for a whole term (spring) they will receive a Bronze Certificate in this assembly! If your child has attended school for 2 whole terms they would have already received a bronze certificate in autumn term and will receive a silver certificate in today’s assembly.

Monday 20th June 2022 to Friday 24th June 2022 – ATTEND TO ACHIEVE WEEK! If your child attends school all week they will receive a treat bag on Thursday 30th June 2020.

Wednesday 6th July 2022 (this date may vary depending on availability/ weather) – An exciting trip for our annual 100% attenders.  This applies to any child that has not been absent from school all year!  The trip will either be a trip to the cinema or a fun day out at the beach.

Tuesday 19th July 2022 – A Special Awards Assembly takes place in school to present certificates to our 100% Summer Term attenders.  If your child has managed to attend school every day for a whole term (summer) they will receive a Bronze Certificate during this assembly! If your child has attended school for 2 whole terms (either spring and summer or autumn and summer) they would have already received a bronze certificate and will receive a silver certificate in today’s assembly. If your child has already received a Bronze and Silver Certificate they will receive a Gold certificate in today’s special attendance assembly!

We do hope you understand the significance of excellent school attendance. It is especially important after COVID 19 school closures, that all children are present in school full time in order to catch up on vital lost learning.

September Arrangements

2nd September 2021S Office
Dear Parents and Carers

Please read over the guidance below again that was sent out just before we broke up for the summer, to remind you of our procedures that will be in place once we all return on Monday 6thSeptember 2021.

As the government are expecting a surge in cases in mid to late September there will be some requests still in place to ensure the safety of the school community. If parents want to speak to teachers, please contact school office to make an appointment or email you child’s class teacher directly.

The process for dropping your children off in the morning and collecting them at the end of the school day will still continue but there have been a slight change in times. There will be no staggered collection times at the end of the day but the one way system will still operate.
If your child does have COVID symptoms they must not attend school.
The new guidance is that if a member of your family does have COVID, if you are double vaccinated or under the age of 18 and 6 months of age, you do not need to isolate. Obviously the person with COVID will have to.

September 2021 Arrangements

Pupils in Reception – Year 6 will return Monday 6th September. Please note this is NOT an INSET Day.

The INSET DAYS for the coming academic year are:
Friday 28th January
Friday 25th March
Friday 17th June

Nursery Children WILL NOT return to school until Friday 10th September for their induction day.

Reception children start on Monday 6th September, parents will have received your packs from Mrs Barker. Please note that children are NOT in full days, only half days up until Thursday 9th September. The Reception children will NOT ATTEND school Friday 10th September but will return Monday 13th September for their full time sessions.

Unless Government Guidance changes the following procedures will be in place at school.

Gates will open at the beginning of the school for Year 1 – Year 6 at the start of the school day at 8.45am and close at 8.55am. All children to be dropped off at the Gresford Street gate and will make their own way to the classrooms. There will be staff to guide them, especially for our Year 1 children as this system will be new to them. This is the same system as we have done over the last academic year, it means parents can just ‘drop and go’ and it relieves congestion on our streets around the school. The gates will shut promptly at 8.55am, please make sure your children are in on time.

At the end of the school day, the one way system will stay in operation. Gates will open at 3.10pm, parents are requested to wait on the path, collect their children and follow the one way system that is already in place. If you have younger children in Nursery/Reception, please collect your OLDER children first and then make your way round to the Foundation stage gates. Please note, depending on the Government Guidance and the recent rise in cases, staggered dismissal times may have to be put back in place.

Uniform – children are still requested to follow the school’s policy for uniform. Please note, no shaved designs are allowed on hair and if parents chose to allow their children to wear trainers as part of their uniform, trainers must be ALL BLACK- WITH NO splashes of colour.

When classes have PE, children can still come to school wearing their PE kits on their designated PE days.
For those children who pay for their school dinners, the cost remains the same at £2.20 per day. Those children who have moved into Year 3, if they are not entitled to Free School Meals will now have to pay for a lunch.

I hope you all have a lovely summer holiday, let’s hope the weather is good to us. Thank you all again for your support over what has been a very difficult time. We will see you back on Monday 6th September if there are any changes to procedures and plans put in place we will contact you through Stanhope Primary’s Facebook page with the details.

The school office will open at 7.30am on Monday 6th September 2021.

Many thanks

Mrs L A Martin

Support sessions by South Tyneside Council

16th July 2021S Office

I would like to take the opportunity to share our flyer and dates for the year for our mental health parent/carer support group in South Tyneside!

The sessions are aimed at those parents/carers of children and young people who have experienced difficulties with their mental/emotional health and who may have accessed services either now, or in the past, giving parents/carers a chance to meet and develop their understanding on some of the services South Tyneside has to offer.

I would be grateful if you could please share to your networks, and indeed any families who you feel would benefit from joining the group.

9th July 2021S Office
Important information for the upcoming week.
We welcome Year 5 back after their isolation period on MONDAY 12 JULY 2021.
We are aware that many schools have slightly adjusted their timings on Monday morning after the Cup Final.
We would also like to offer the opportunity for those children who are football fans and likely to be staying up late to come to school for 10am for THAT MORNING ONLY.
The gates will open at normal time 8.45am for those parents who want to bring their children for the usual times. Breakfast club will operate as normal.
Those children who would like to watch the match and stay up later can come in to school at 10am. The gates will open at 9.55am and will be closed at 10.05am, please make sure children are in on time.
It’s 55 years since England reached a major football final, we can talk about the importance of our National Anthem, about pride, resilience, sportsmanship and possibly disappointment.

Staff will keep on touch with our Nursery and Reception children.
We would like to remind parents that if children don’t feel well, please do not send them into school. Book a PCR test to make sure you protect the rest of the ‘Bubble’.
