Netball – South Tyneside Qualifiers

19th February 2018A Rogers

Today our 7 Y5 and Y6 pupils played superbly to qualify for the South Tyneside Schools’ Netball Finals.

We played two matches winning 11-1 and 6-0 to advance to the finals that will be held at Whitburn Academy next Tuesday.

Brooke Urwin scored some amazing goals in both matches, Charlie Bates (c) led the team confidently with commanding performances, as well as Aston Hall with his precise footwork. They along with Sahib Basra, Maddison Fontaine, Erika Judd and Beth Thompson communicated so well and combined together to produce such wonderful results.

Their progress with this new sport to Stanhope in just a matter of weeks is impressive to say the least.

Good Luck next week – we know you can do it!

Tyne and Wear County Sportshall Athletics Finals 2018

14th January 2018a hayward

Today 24 children from Y3-6 competed at Temple Park Leisure Centre in the Tyne and Wear County Sportshall Athletics Finals.

Having qualified to represent South Tyneside when winning the previous round in October 2017 the children competed fiercely against very talented pupils from across the county.
The children have practiced diligently and with great heart for many months, both in school at break times and lunchtimes, as well as afterschool too. Their commitment has been second-to- none.
At the end of the event, when the scores of the pupils within each team were totalled, our Team were announced as 5th place finishers. Gosforth Central Middle School were crowned champions for the 3rd successive year.

There were some impressive performances, with great potential for future years demonstrated too –

Maddison Fontaine was 1st in the Speed Bounce with 55 repetitions.

Amie Cutter 3rd Speed Bounce 52 repetitions

Girls Over and Under Relay 1st 1:15.2 (New Competition Record)

Girls Speed Bounce 1st 153 repetitions

Sahib Basra Chest Push 2nd 7.25m

Boys Speed Bounce 2nd 158 repetitions

Basketball Finals H4H Newcastle 2018

14th January 2018A Rogers

On Friday 12th January our 7 remaining A Team pupils competed in the Hoops4Health Finals at Sports Central, Newcastle. It was wonderful to watch the North Stand of Sport Central steadily filling up with 50 excited families and friends from Stanhope. This was an good community effort, getting behind the team in a big finals event! Our players were really motivated to play in front of so much support, and give their very best.

The Stanhope team took to the court for the second semi-final against St. Bede’s RC S/S, the defending champions. We immediately started positively, as we passed the ball around confidently. A flowing team move saw us nearly take an early lead with Charlie Bates taking a fine long range effort. This was met by a fantastic roar from the Stanhope support! We sadly couldn’t build on this lead and after much pressure from St. Bede’s, we resisted conceding a basket and rounded out a 0-0 draw.

Therefore a shoot out was to take place, Charlie Bates and Brooke Urwin took our penalties, however they were unable to score and St. Bede’s netted 1/2 of their shots to progress to the final. A devastating way to lose out.

The final took place at half-time in the Eagles game, in a front of 3000 at Sport Central. St. Bede’s RC S/S took on East Boldon winning 8-0.

Well done to the skillful and dedicated players who had all trained outside with such commitment in the build up to the finals throughout a cold, icy and wet December. Finally, a big thank you to the outstanding school community, for your support on a memorable sporting occasion for our school. We will be back even better, more determined and stronger once again next year!

South Tyneside Basketball Qualifiers – Success!

7th December 2017A Rogers

On Thursday 7th December 14 pupils from KS2 competed at Temple Park Leisure Centre in the South Tyneside H4H qualifiers.

Our 2 teams competed with wonderful team spirit against 36 other teams – with the aim of reaching the H4H Finals night in January 2018.

The drive, focus, superb drills and sportsmanship from our teams was second-to-none, giving 100%to their team in each and every game.

Our team 1 topped their morning group winning all 5 games convincingly, while team 2 finished also won their group with 3 wins and 2 draws, to both reach the last 16 knock-out stages.

Here Stanhope 1 were paired against Stanhope 2 sadly, they had a fantastic battle, with Team 1 winning 18-0 , to advance to the final 8 teams. Next they played against Biddick Hall 1. In what was a very physical game we prevailed with fantastic leadership and agility demonstrated by Aston Hall (Captain), Charlie Bates (Vice-Captain) and Brooke Urwin in particular – scoring some wonderful baskets.

Well done to everyone that took part on the day and the parental support that we enjoyed at Temple Park. The team consisting of Aston Hall (Captain), Charlie Bates (Vice-Captain), Marc Shone, Jack Garlinge, Haiden Jones, Brooke Urwin and Beth Thompson will now play at Sports Central on Friday12th January at 6pm.

It would be wonderful if we can get a lot of children and family members from our school community to attend this prestigious event. All tickets to watch Stanhope and the Newcastle Eagles will be free. It will be a fun filled and exciting night for Stanhope’s school community!

This promises to be a very special occasion for our school, having qualified for such a great competition for the very second year in succession.

KS1 Mini Tennis Festival

24th November 2017A Rogers

Our Year 2 pupils enjoyed participating in the KS1 Mini Tennis Festival yesterday at Temple Park.

They learnt lots of new skills with the racket and ball, as well as balance, footwork, agility and co-ordination.

I wonder if we will have a budding tennis star? Perhaps the next Andy Murray or Serena Williams is in our midst!

South Tyneside Cross Country Finals 2017

13th November 2017a hayward

On Thursday 2nd November 27 pupils from KS2 competed at Temple Park Leisure Centre in the South Tyneside Cross Country Finals.

Each child completed in their respective year group events, comprising of between 40 and 50 children from various schools in the borough.

All of our children, performed well, working hard and demonstrating great determination.

Outstanding performers were:

Cassie Howard (Y3) who lead from the very start and was never headed. She stormed to a convincing victory in the opening race of the day. A great talent with so much potential in the future.

Another highlight was Alexa Reid (Y4) who paced her race well to finish in 3rd place, finishing strongly and catching the leaders. She was ably supported by early leader Shari Viney (Y4), who faded to finish a wonderful 4th too.

Other top 10 finishers were Charlie Elliot (Y4) 7th and Ruby Sharp (Y3) 9th.
