Tyne and Wear Netball Finals 2019

28th March 2019A Rogers

CONGRATULATIONS to our SUPERB Netball team who were today crowned TYNE AND WEAR COUNTY CHAMPIONS!!

I am so proud of the 7 pupils, who have put in lots of hours training for this event. They were exceptional with great passing, footwork, interceptions and team spirit demonstrated throughout each and every game. They remained undefeated in the competition and were invincible.

They combined together to win all 6 group games beginning with Hill View (Sunderland) winning 5-1 with Aston scoring 3, as well as Beth and Brooke with 1 a piece. Next up was the Royal Grammar School (Newcastle) winning 4-2 with Aston scoring 2, along with Charlie and Layla 1 goal each. The third match was against Gosforth East Middle School (Newcastle), who eventually finished 4th overall. We won 5-1 with Beth and Brooke scoring 2 goals and Layla 1. We then faced Portobello (Gateshead) winning again 8-0, Beth and Brooke with 3 goals, along with Aston’s 2. The penultimate group game was against our friendly rivals from South Tyneside, St. Aloysius. Here we won 6-0 Layla, Charlie and Sophie scoring 2 goals each. The final group game was against Christ Church (North Shields) where we won our 6th game 5-0 Beth scoring 2, with Layla and Brooke scoring 1 goals each.

Therefore we were group 1 winners and progressed to the gold medal match, facing Hotspur (Newcastle) in the final. It was a really tough game, however our skill and determination pulled us through to a 5-3 victory!

We were all overjoyed to be the winners and gold medalists. It truly is an amazing achievements for our pupils and school, in such a short space of time to have such tremendous success. Not only that, but other schools commented on our friendliness, caring attitude and sportsmanship which is a delight to hear and see from such wonderful role models. Alongside this many schools, including St. Aloysius and Mortimer stayed to support our team which was gratefully received and lovely to have.

Well done to the seven superstars! As I always say – hard work really does pay off!

Congratulations once again!
