🟡🟢TYNE & WEAR COUNTY BOCCIA FINALS 2023🟢🟡
Congratulations to our brilliant boccia players who battled hard against the top 15 teams in the county to a superb bronze medal! They got off to a rocky start in Group 1 with a loss 1-5 vs. Burradon (North Tyneside), but then bounced back to top their group with 3 consecutive wins; 4-1 vs. Redby (Sunderland), 4-3 vs. Kelvin Grove (Gateshead) and 5-1 vs. West Jesmond (Newcastle).
They then progressed to the Semi Finals where in an incredibly tight match they lost on the final shot 1-3 vs. Bexhill (Sunderland). In the 3rd/4th Playoff Match the terrific trio won 4-2 vs. Glynwood (Gateshead) to secure the bronze medals .
🥇Bexhill (Sunderland)
🥈Burnside (Newcastle)
🥉Stanhope (South Tyneside)
Yesterday was a brilliant day for Stanhope’s Boccia team. After attending after school practice sessions the 9 children were split into three teams for the event at Temple Park Centre.
We were among a total of 27 teams competing for a place at the county finals.
We were nervous but having an awesome time playing against some tough competition.
After playing great 8 games per team, it was results time.
Stanhope won first🥇, second🥈and fourth🎖️places. A huge well done to the children as the points scored by all teams were extremely close. We are very proud of our whole team and how hard they have worked to learn the game and be so skilled at it.
County finals next! 😃👍
On Wednesday 2nd March the Stanhope Primary Boccia Team attended a competition at Temple Park Sports complex. We were competing against 20 teams from across South Tyneside.
Stanhope played some pretty tough games against some great players. In some cases the final score came down to the final throw! Nail-biting stuff!
In the end, despite reaching the Semi-finals we were placed fourth overall. We are immensely proud of the team and all of their hard work practicing after school – well done Stanhope.
On Wednesday 14th March 12 pupils from Y5 and Y6 competed at St. Joseph’s RC Academy, Hebburn in the South Tyneside finals.
Our 4 teams competed with good team spirit and sportsmanship against 18 other teams – with the aim of reaching the Tyne and Wear County Finals at the end of the month.
The pupils were all very determined to succeed during their games, talking and communicating with one another at a skilled level. Our team 2 and 3 topped their groups to qualify for the quarter-finals, while team 4 finished in 3rd place and team 1 in 4th place within their groups to just miss out on reaching the last 8 knock-out stage.
Here Stanhope 3 were paired against St.Aloysius Juniors, they were beaten despite winning the first end, 3-2. In our other quarter-final Stanhope 2 lost out to Lord Blyton Primary 4-1.
Well done to everyone that took part on the day and for all of your hard work and time when practising for the competition.
