South Tyneside Schools Boccia Finals 2023

1st February 2023A Rogers

Yesterday was a brilliant day for Stanhope’s Boccia team. After attending after school practice sessions the 9 children were split into three teams for the event at Temple Park Centre.
We were among a total of 27 teams competing for a place at the county finals.
We were nervous but having an awesome time playing against some tough competition.
After playing great 8 games per team, it was results time.
Stanhope won first🥇, second🥈and fourth🎖️places. A huge well done to the children as the points scored by all teams were extremely close. We are very proud of our whole team and how hard they have worked to learn the game and be so skilled at it.
County finals next! 😃👍

South Tyneside Schools Boccia Finals 2022

4th March 2022A Rogers

On Wednesday 2nd March the Stanhope Primary Boccia Team attended a competition at Temple Park Sports complex. We were competing against 20 teams from across South Tyneside.

Stanhope played some pretty tough games against some great players. In some cases the final score came down to the final throw! Nail-biting stuff!

In the end, despite reaching the Semi-finals we were placed fourth overall. We are immensely proud of the team and all of their hard work practicing after school – well done Stanhope.

South Tyneside Schools Boccia Finals 2018

12th March 2018a hayward

On Wednesday 14th March 12 pupils from Y5 and Y6 competed at St. Joseph’s RC Academy, Hebburn in the South Tyneside finals.

Our 4 teams competed with good team spirit and sportsmanship against 18 other teams – with the aim of reaching the Tyne and Wear County Finals at the end of the month.

The pupils were all very determined to succeed during their games, talking and communicating with one another at a skilled level. Our team 2 and 3 topped their groups to qualify for the quarter-finals, while team 4 finished in 3rd place and team 1 in 4th place within their groups to just miss out on reaching the last 8 knock-out stage.

Here Stanhope 3 were paired against St.Aloysius Juniors, they were beaten despite winning the first end, 3-2. In our other quarter-final Stanhope 2 lost out to Lord Blyton Primary 4-1.

Well done to everyone that took part on the day and for all of your hard work and time when practising for the competition.

Tyne and Wear County Boccia Finals 2017

5th April 2017A Rogers

On Tuesday 28th March 12 pupils from Y5 and Y6 competed at Lord Lawson of Beamish School in the Tyne and Wear county finals.

Our 2 teams competed with great focus and determination, wonderful team spirit and sportsmanship against the final 12 teams – with the aim of becoming Tyne and Wear County champions.

The children put into practice all of their training and advice to communicating with one another in order to produce some outstanding shots.

Our team 1, despite winning all of their games missed out on gold, due to the number of points they scored. However team 3 with 3 wins and 1 close defeat were crowned county champions!

This truly is phenomenal – in our first county finals winning and finishing as runners up is tremendous, an unforgettable achievement for our school and the pupils.

Bakhtawar Hayer (Captain) of Stanhope 3 hit a wonderfully precise shot to secure a 3-1 win for his team.

Well done to everyone that took part on the day and for all of your hard work and time when practising for many months before the competition (it was certainly worth every minute).

The teams consisting of: Stanhope 3 — Bakhtawar Hayer, Evie Harle and Tyler Thompson (GOLD) and Stanhope 1 — Kai Muir (Captain), Lucas Dunn and TJ Ridley (SILVER).

I’m bursting with pride for all of you.

South Tyneside Schools Boccia Finals 2017

2nd March 2017A Rogers

On Wednesday 1st March 12 pupils from Y5 and Y6 competed at St. Joseph’s RC Academy, Hebburn in the South Tyneside finals.

Our 4 teams competed with fabulous team spirit and sportsmanship against 24 other teams – with the aim of reaching the Tyne and Wear County Finals at the end of the month.

The focus and commitment from our teams was second to none, while they were all very determined to succeed during their games, talking and communicating with one another at a skilled level. Our team 1 and 3 topped their groups to qualify for the semi-finals, while team 2 finished in 2nd place and team 4 in 3rd place within their groups to just miss out on reaching the last 4 knock-out stage.

Here Stanhope 1 were paired against Forest View Primary, they advanced to the final, winning 3-1. In the second semi-final Stanhope 3 played a very competitive match against Harton Primary – they were victorious also winning 2-1.

Therefore both of our teams would meet one another in the grand final! A spectacular achievement for our school and the pupils.

After the first end Stanhope 1 led 1-0, however with the final shot of the match Bakhtawar Hayer (Captain) of Stanhope 3 hit a wonderfully precise shot to secure a 3-1 win for his team.

Well done to everyone that took part on the day and for all of your hard work and time when practising for the competition (it was worth it). The teams consisting of: Stanhope 3 — Bakhtawar Hayer, Evie Harle and Tyler Thompson (GOLD) and Stanhope 1 — Kai Muir (Captain), Lucas Dunn and TJ Ridley (SILVER)  will now play at the county finals on March 28th.

This promises to be a momentous event for our school, having never previously qualified for a county final. I’m extremely proud.
