On Friday 23rd February 2018, the children in Year 2 found the three primary colours – red, blue and yellow. They explored mixing the colours to make the secondary colours – purple, green and orange.
We looked at the artist Mark Rothko and created art in the same style. The children made rectangular shapes with the different colours they had created and thought about their moods to match the colours.
On Monday 19th February 2018, the children in Year 2 changed materials by rolling, squeezing, stretching and twisting. The children made different shapes and considered the forces used.
As you are aware, Mrs Barker held a Phonics meeting with Year 1 parents to discuss the upcoming Phonics screen test for Year 1 children.

As you are aware here at Stanhope Primary School we take pride in our excellent attendance record.
This time in the year always proves difficult to maintain this. To help improve our attendance we would like your child to participate in a four week Attendance Reward Initiative.
We have displayed a chart in your child’s class, which they will mark each day they are in school during the special four weeks.
If your child attends school every day from Monday 19th February 2018 to Friday 16th January 2018 he/she will be invited to a special performance.
We have invited Mr. Windbags (Magician) to come along and entertain the children for an hour in school on the afternoon of Wednesday 21st March 2018 followed by a DVD.
The show will take place in school and there will be members of staff present at all times. If you do not want your child to watch the show please inform your child’s class teacher.

For this half term’s after school club, the children will be taking part in aerobics on a Thursday evening. The children are put through their paces and have great fun.
Last week at Stanhope Primary School was Inventors Week. The children spent parts of their week looking at different inventors. They then used different methods to document all of the facts they had found. Some classes drew pictures, did a piece of writing, made quizzes and much more.
As each class chose a different inventor, on Friday’s assembly the children in each class got up and presented to the rest of the school which inventor they were looking into and what they had learnt during the week.
The child had lots of fun throughout the week and did a fantastic job of sharing their new knowledge with the other children.
Yesterday Year 6 began their new topic of ‘Film Making’ in Computing. Over the next few weeks, the children will be creating their own documentary based on the Ancient Egyptians.
In today’s session, the children worked in groups to plan their documentary. Once their plans were finalised, the children began to think about their interview script and what information will be required.

Please do not go to any expense to purchase bright clothing, non uniform will be fine. There is no charge for this special day and children will receive a fun lunch from the school cook. If any children stay for packed lunch, they are able to purchase a fun lunch for £2.10 – Please notify the school office.
