Year 6 – The Elephant Thief

2nd July 2019A Rogers
This year we have thoroughly enjoyed reading Jane Kerr’s wonderful story of Danny and Marharaja on their journey to Belle Vue in Manchester.
The Elephant Thief has captivated us so much that we decided to write to the author herself.
Today we received personalised letters answering our own individual questions from Jane! We are astounded by this gesture. A lovely memento to keep.

Virgin Money – Year 5

2nd July 2019S Office

As part of Careers Week at Stanhope, we were visited by a community banker who works for Virgin Money. Paula came to talk to us about her role as community baker and the children learned about savings, mortgages, current accounts and charity work. The children also chatted about Sir Richard Branson and how built his Virgin Empire. The children were interested in the idea of being a entrepreneur and Paula explained how they could get involved with the Virgin Money ‘Make £5 Grow’ scheme. The children had some amazing ideas for small businesses to make their £5 grow.

Year 5 workshops

19th June 2019S Office

Year 5 have been very busy lately! They have taken part in an activity with a visitor from Operation Encompass who helped the them work together to understand what makes a good friendship.

They have also been voting for the engineer they feel deserves the £500 funding, in an online project called I’m an Engineer Get Me Out Of Here! They have really enjoyed asking questions to the participants and finding out about the variety of skills needed to become an engineer. Some of the children were inspired to become engineers themselves!
