North East Basketball Final 2018

15th June 2018A Rogers

Today our Y5/6 Basketballers performed superbly, but had really hard lines to just miss out on qualifying for the knock out stages.

They were competing in the North East Regional Basketball Finals  at Sports Central in Newcastle. There were 43 teams participating and we were drawn in Group E. Here after a slow start against Seaburn Dene (Sunderland) – the eventual group winners, we sadly lost 8-0. After this we regained our composure and were ‘on fire’ scoring freely to win their next 2 matches 16-4 vs. St. Teresa’s (Newcastle) (Kara 1 basket, Sahib 1 basket, Aston 2 baskets, Shay 2 baskets & Maddison 2 baskets) and 14-0 vs. Wyndham Primary (Newcastle) (Maddison 1 basket, Sahib 3 baskets & Kara 3 baskets). After a short break we came back to play Preston Grange (North Tyneside) and in a very physical game they were highly unlucky to lose to 2 long range efforts 4-2 (Aston 1 basket). The team then battled to 2 wonderful victories 4-2 vs. Bede Primary (Gateshead) (Kara 2 baskets) and 10-4 vs. Battle Hill (North Tyneside) (Charlie 2 baskets & Kara, Shay and Sahib 1 basket each). Sadly this meant the team missed out on qualifying for the knock out round by just 1 point!

Kara – 7 baskets    Sahib – 5 baskets   Maddison – 3 baskets   Shay – 3 baskets

Aston – 3 baskets   Charlie – 2 baskets

I have to say both myself and Mrs Thompson were incredibly impressed by their positive attitudes, great sportsmanship and impeccable behaviour. In fact it was delightful to also hear this from other schools’ members of staff and passers by in the street, one lady loved how ‘unified’ we were. Keep it up!

Maddison Fontaine was also selected to be part of the NEW Talent ID U12 Newcastle Eagles Development Squad. Fantastic!

Well done to all 6 pupils – I’m as proud as always of all of you. Mr Rogers.

Year 6 – Celebrating end of SAT’s

4th June 2018S Office
After working extremely hard all week during their SATS, Year 6 relaxed and enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon. To de-stress, the children thoroughly enjoyed a Boys vs Girls game of rounders on the field. The boys were victorious but the girls are determined to win the next game.
Later in the afternoon, the children loved spending more time in the Forest School. They continued to build their forts and relished in the summer sun.
