South Shields Town Hall Visit

21st October 2019S Office

Miss Coils and three children from school visited the Town Hall last week to learn about democracy.  They were told a story about Staryland, where their people needed help to elect a new leader.  The children discussed which qualities they looked for in a good leader and heard the candidates speeches in the council chambers.  Every child was then given the opportunity to vote at an actual polling booth, with ballot papers and a ballot box.  It was a tense few moments waiting for the votes to be verified and counted. Damon, James and Ruby sat with their fingers crossed hoping the candidate they voted for would be elected.  To their delight it was indeed Sally Shoestring who was crowned the new leader of Staryland!

Jarrow & Hebburn A.C. Cross Country 2019

20th October 2019A Rogers

Today we had an extremely wet and cold experience, but it was wonderful to see 20 talented Stanhope runners represented, some of which for the very first time. It was highly enjoyable at Bedeswell Park in Jarrow.

Thank you to all of those pupils and parents who made the effort to attend in such inclement weather – great dedication shown.

There were some great performances – it was fantastic to see the children giving their all despite the rain, wind and muddy conditions.

Our super squad of runners will continue to practise hard for the forthcoming South Tyneside Schools’ Finals on November 7th at Temple Park.

CONGRATULATIONS to our medallists:

1st Y5 Girl School – Cassie Howard

1st Y6 Girl School – Alexa Reid

2nd Y6 Girl School – Shari Viney

3rd Y5 Girl School – Ruby Sharp

Year 2 – Writing

18th October 2019T Capon
Writing a Recount
Year 2 have been writing a recount of their recent visit to the Planetarium at the Great North Museum in Newcastle. The children have looked at the features of this genre and even looked at examples of recounts. Together, the class recalled the events throughout the day to help support their own writing.
Miss Haygarth and Miss Mensforth are impressed with the improvement in writing so far this year. The children are using conjunctions to join sentences and are using the correct punctuation.
Well Done Year 2

As you are aware, Aldi UK have teamed up with the 2020 Olympics and are giving schools the chance to win £20,000!

Please continue to collect the stickers from your local Aldi UK and bring them into school to stick on the chart!
