Year 1 have enjoyed learning about fantasy stories, particularly Room on the Broom, The Gruffalo and the Gruffalo’s Child. Next week we are moving onto Whatever Next! and will adventure into space! Here we are being reading buddies to the toys in our reading area. They love to listen to us tell them stories.

In July 2017 Stanhope Primary School were awarded with a silver award in ‘Our School Games’. This is the first year that Stanhope have entered and we are over the moon to be awarded silver. Thank you to Mr Rogers and all of the children who have contributed to the school sports teams throughout the year!

We have decided due to our great participation in sports this year 2 new awards. These are to be awarded annually to the best boy and best girl in sports at Stanhope.

On 12th July 2017 30 children from Stanhope Primary School travelled to The Vue Cinema at Trinity Square Gateshead to watch a private showing of Despicable Me 3, as a reward for having 100% attendance for all of 2016/2017.. thats correct, not ONE day off in a whole school year!! After the movie the children then went to Burger King and enjoyed their chosen lunch before heading back to school on the Metro. The children always enjoy the annual trip to the cinema and we hope to carry this tradition on for many years to encourage children to attend school. A big well done to all of the children!
In PE throughout the academic year Y5 and Y6 pupils have been enjoying taking part in various athletics events – entitled the ‘Mini Olympics’.

Well done to our Y3/4 Tennis, the team finished 5th in their group. A great result for their first year taking part in any competitive sports.

Throughout 2016/2017 the children in Year 6 took part in various fundraising tasks to enable them to enjoy the last few weeks they had at Stanhope Primary School. All of the money the children raised, went towards their end of year trips. In July 2017 the children in Year 6 visited the Discovery Museum in Newcastle.
On Wednesday 5th July 2017 Stanhope Primary School hosted its annual Outdoor Summer Fayre. Due to weather conditions on the day, the fayre was held in the school hall but this didn’t stop parents and carers coming along to take part in the day. During the event there were many stalls such as a bottle tombola, gift tombola, cake stalls, games and much more. There was also live music from 2017’s Britain’s Got Talent Semi Finalist Jamie Lee Harrison. It was lovely to welcome Jamie into school and for him to sing some songs and chat with the children about his music career and how he can inspire children from his local community to pursue their dreams.
A massive thank you to all of the staff and helpers at the fayre, and also to the parents/ carers who came to school to enjoy the fair with their children. We hope next years fair will be just as, if not even more successful.
