On Friday 23rd February 2018, the children in Year 2 found the three primary colours – red, blue and yellow. They explored mixing the colours to make the secondary colours – purple, green and orange.
We looked at the artist Mark Rothko and created art in the same style. The children made rectangular shapes with the different colours they had created and thought about their moods to match the colours.
On Monday 19th February 2018, the children in Year 2 changed materials by rolling, squeezing, stretching and twisting. The children made different shapes and considered the forces used.
As you are aware, Mrs Barker held a Phonics meeting with Year 1 parents to discuss the upcoming Phonics screen test for Year 1 children.

This week, Year 5 have been learning about Forces and made models to represent the force of gravity pulling unsupported objects towards the centre of the Earth.
In computing this half term, Year 5 have will be creating their own website. The website will be about their humanities topic of Amazing Americas. They have designed their own homepage this week.
Today our school council visited South Shields Town Hall. We were shown around the building and given lots of information about it’s history.
We visited the reception room where people get married and the council chambers where Councillors make big decisions. The mayor and mayoress popped in to see us and showed us their chains.
The children really enjoyed their visit and learned a lot.
As part of Friendship Week 2018, Year 6 have been taking part in a variety of creative activities. First of all, they discussed what makes a good friend and selected their own friends to identify their excellent qualities.
Later, the children designed a ‘hand’ filled with illustrations as well as words and phrases linked with friendship. Year 6 will be creating a friendship tree using their decorated hands.
At the end of the week, all of the children made their own friendship bracelet using a variety of colours of wool. They were able to choose whether they wanted to add beads or Lego pieces to their finished bracelet.
It has definitely been a week full of positivity and celebrating friendship.

Today our 7 Y5 and Y6 pupils played superbly to qualify for the South Tyneside Schools’ Netball Finals.
We played two matches winning 11-1 and 6-0 to advance to the finals that will be held at Whitburn Academy next Tuesday.
Brooke Urwin scored some amazing goals in both matches, Charlie Bates (c) led the team confidently with commanding performances, as well as Aston Hall with his precise footwork. They along with Sahib Basra, Maddison Fontaine, Erika Judd and Beth Thompson communicated so well and combined together to produce such wonderful results.
Their progress with this new sport to Stanhope in just a matter of weeks is impressive to say the least.
