Welcome to our English area
English lessons at Stanhope Primary provide opportunities for children to develop their speaking and listening as well as Reading and Writing skills. Our aim is for ALL children to access a range of learning opportunities to achieve their full potential in English. Engaging and exciting novels are used to capture the interests of children and carefully planned lessons are taught to allow pupils to write in a wide variety of contexts. All aspects of English are taught in line with the Primary National Curriculum.

Today we have had a wonderful success in WINNING the South Tyneside Tennis Finals, held at Boldon LTA.
Our 8 fantastic tennis players won 34, drew 4 and lost just 10 of their matches. Their hard work, dedication, enthusiasm and determination to succeed has certainly paid off.

They will now compete in the Tyne and Wear County Finals at Silksworth Sports Complex in Sunderland.

Today our 7 netballers played in the Tyne and Wear County Finals at Blume Flames, Benton, Newcastle.
They, along with the top 3 qualifying teams from each of the boroughs making up Tyne and Wear County played some very competitive matches. We had a tough draw in group 2. Firstly we played eventual champions St. Benet’s (Sunderland), despite leading early in the game, we lost 3-1, Maddison Fontaine scoring.
Next we played Walkergate (Newcastle) and drew 3-3, Charlie Bates (Captain) scoring 2 goals, with Erika Judd adding the third.
Our third group match was against King’s Priory (North Tyneside): we dominated the match with some slick passing. Aston Hall scored 2 goals, Erika 1 and Brooke Urwin the fourth goal to win 4-0.
The fourth game was against Bailey Green (Newcastle) we won 3-2, Maddison scoring 2 goals and Brooke 1.
In the next match it was a close encounter, but for errors we could have won, but lost 3-2, Erika and Brooke scoring a goal a piece.
Our penultimate match we played Mortimer (South Tyneside), who would eventually finish 3rd overall. We sadly lost 5-1, Maddison scoring our only goal.
The final match of the day for our team was a great game, we drew 3-3 with Sacred Heart (Gateshead). Maddison, Aston and Brooke scoring 1 goal each.
Congratulations to the team who missed out on reaching the Medal Matches: Aston Hall, Sahib Basra, Maddison Fontaine, Erika Judd, Brooke Urwin & Beth Thompson.

On Wednesday 14th March 12 pupils from Y5 and Y6 competed at St. Joseph’s RC Academy, Hebburn in the South Tyneside finals.
Our 4 teams competed with good team spirit and sportsmanship against 18 other teams – with the aim of reaching the Tyne and Wear County Finals at the end of the month.
The pupils were all very determined to succeed during their games, talking and communicating with one another at a skilled level. Our team 2 and 3 topped their groups to qualify for the quarter-finals, while team 4 finished in 3rd place and team 1 in 4th place within their groups to just miss out on reaching the last 8 knock-out stage.
Here Stanhope 3 were paired against St.Aloysius Juniors, they were beaten despite winning the first end, 3-2. In our other quarter-final Stanhope 2 lost out to Lord Blyton Primary 4-1.
Well done to everyone that took part on the day and for all of your hard work and time when practising for the competition.
RESULTS 2018
Mr Rogers
Today our 7 Y5 and Y6 pupils played superbly to qualify for the South Tyneside Schools’ Netball Finals.
We played two matches winning 11-1 and 6-0 to advance to the finals that will be held at Whitburn Academy next Tuesday.
Brooke Urwin scored some amazing goals in both matches, Charlie Bates (c) led the team confidently with commanding performances, as well as Aston Hall with his precise footwork. They along with Sahib Basra, Maddison Fontaine, Erika Judd and Beth Thompson communicated so well and combined together to produce such wonderful results.
Their progress with this new sport to Stanhope in just a matter of weeks is impressive to say the least.
Good Luck next week – we know you can do it!
Yesterday evening our 7 budding netballers played in the South Tyneside Finals at Whitburn CofE Academy.
They, along with the 4 other qualifying teams played some wonderful matches resulting in us being declared CHAMPIONS of South Tyneside and thus progressing to the Tyne and Wear County Finals, to be held on March 29th.
The children Captained by Charlie Bates won their first game, comfortably winning 3-0 against St.Oswald’s Hebburn. They then played Mr Rogers’ former school St. Aloysius winning 3-1. In their third game, despite having most of the possession they won a close match against Biddick Hall Juniors. Then in the final match, with the pressure off the team, unlucky not to score some of their attempts were narrowly defeated by Mortimer.
Congratulations to the team including: Aston Hall, Sahib Basra, Maddison Fontaine, Erika Judd, Brooke Urwin & Beth Thompson. We wish you lots of luck in the County Finals later this month.
