Year 3- Italian Food

13th October 2020Cheryl Henderson

As part of our Geography topic ‘Where does our food come from?’, Year 3 have been trying some Mediterranean food today.

Originating from Southern Italy, we have tasted olives, figs, peppers, grapes, pomegranate, various cheeses, pizza and pasta.

The children really enjoyed it and tried some things they had never tried before.

Thank you to Asda South Shields for supplying the food.

Collection Arrangements

13th October 2020S Office
13th October 2020

Collection Arrangements

As of this afternoon there will be a ONE WAY SYSTEM when collection your child/ren from school. All parents are to arrive via the gates on Gresford Street and follow the school path up to your child’s class. The cones will be visible to help you identify your child’s class. Once you have collected your child/ren, you must then continue up the path and leave the premises via the ‘West Way Gates’.

Parents/carers and children are NOT to use the MUGA. This is due to health and safety. As the weather is changing the school grounds are becoming slippery, and causing health and safety concerns. This is in the best interests of the children, parents/carers and staff.

RECEPTION CHILDREN with sibling links will be dismissed via the fire exit, which is located at the side of the building next to the ‘West Way Gate’. Staff will guide you to the door.

We understand that parents already have a routine however, but we need to keep everyone safe. Once you have collected your child/ren, please leave the premises as soon as possible following the one way system.

These changes will NOT affect the collections time and they will remain the same. Staff will be out to help with directions. Please maintain social distancing AT ALL TIMES and as the Government directs, do not gather with other parents. This will help to keep everyone safe.

I would like to thank you all for your co-operation and patience as always.

Mental Health Day

11th October 2020Cheryl Henderson

10th October 2020

World Mental Health Day

The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10 October every year. This year’s theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is mental health for all.

The day provides an opportunity to raise awareness of mental health and encourages people to prioritise their mental wellbeing.

Miss Coils will be putting new activities on our Virtual Mindful Moment Classroom to support our children’s mental health – some will have a limited availability so do not miss out!

Parents are welcome to use this booklet to support their Mental Health.

Year 4- Autumn Week 5 2020

11th October 2020Cheryl Henderson

Year 4 have had a very busy week…

English:

The children explored the different features of what makes a good persuasive advertising poster.

Maths:

We used the peg boards and loom bands to create symmetrical shapes with our partner. Can you spot which ones are symmetrical and show the line of symmetry? Can you spot any that are NOT symmetrical?

We even attempted to create a symmetrical repeated pattern later in the week.

Science:

This week we explored the differences between conducting and insulating materials. Firstly, we made a complete circuit, followed by introducing different materials such as paper clips, rubbers, plastic rulers, metal spoons to name a few. We made predictions, experimented and explained why they were/ weren’t good conductors/insulators.

Year 4 Autumn Week 4

3rd October 2020Cheryl Henderson

Maths

This week Year 4 have worked with 2d shapes, looking for lines of symmetry. We used mirrors to help check the reflection, identify the lines of symmetry and we attempted to draw the reflection. We did a fantastic job!

History

Our topic this half term is the Mayan’s. We looked at their existence and development by arranging a time line. We did this in groups to support each other.

Spellings & Computing

Year 4 have been exploring a new way to complete our spellings this year (electronically). We have had a few hiccups over the last few weeks but we have finally cracked it! The children were very impressed and excited at using a QR code to access spellings this week. Well done Year 4! Keep working hard on your spellings and let’s see if we can get more children achieving 10/10. Remember you can find your spellings in your google classroom.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM MRS MARTIN

2nd October 2020S Office

Dear Parent and Carers,

You will probably be aware that many school settings have been advised to close to particular ‘bubbles’ or year groups as they have been told to isolate. For the last few weeks we have managed here at Stanhope Primary, to run to capacity, however there may be a time in the very near future when we may have to close to a year group or year groups.

Unfortunately, a closure of this type will be at very short notice. You will be notified of a closure via our website, Facebook page, as well as our text messaging service.

We will all do our best to remain open however the safety of our children and staff is paramount.

Thank you for all your support since we returned in September.

Mrs L A Martin
