TEDDY MEETS YEAR 1

26th April 2023A Rogers

🐶🟡🟢TEDDY MEETS YEAR 1🟢🟡🐶
Teddy loved meeting some more of his friends – this time it was Year 1’s turn. They really enjoyed spending time this afternoon meeting Teddy. They listened to the school rules carefully and Teddy followed their commands extremely well. He’s a paw-some addition to our school family.

Anger Awareness Week

1st December 2020Cheryl Henderson
Anger Awareness Week
We have lots of emotions. At different times, we may be happy, sad, or jealous. Anger is just another way we feel. It’s perfectly OK to be angry at times — in fact, it’s important to get angry sometimes. BUT anger must be released in the right way. Otherwise we will be like a pot of boiling water with the lid left on. If the steam doesn’t escape, the water will finally boil over and blow its top! When that happens, it’s no fun for anyone.
Monday 30th December 2020 will see the beginning of Anger Awareness Week here at Stanhope Primary. The children will be learning that it is OK to feel angry and how to cope and behave when they are feeling angry.
Miss Coils has also found some great resources for our families, carers and parents on the topic of anger. The booklets below have information to support the understanding of why we get angry and there is a self-help guide to coping and controlling our anger.

Mental Health Day

11th October 2020Cheryl Henderson

10th October 2020

World Mental Health Day

The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10 October every year. This year’s theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is mental health for all.

The day provides an opportunity to raise awareness of mental health and encourages people to prioritise their mental wellbeing.

Miss Coils will be putting new activities on our Virtual Mindful Moment Classroom to support our children’s mental health – some will have a limited availability so do not miss out!

Parents are welcome to use this booklet to support their Mental Health.

National Fitness Day

29th September 2020Cheryl Henderson

National Fitness Day

On Wednesday 23 September 2020, the rain did not stop Stanhope Primary celebrating National Fitness Day. The day not only brought the nation together, but also our school to remind us why it’s good to move, highlighting the role that physical activity plays in helping us lead healthier, happier lives both physically and mentally.

Reception – look at us keeping fit by dancing our socks off!

Year 1 had fun keeping fit with Jump Start Jonny today. They all whipped up their workout and stretched their muscles.

Year 2 completed 10 star jumps, 10 hops, 10 jumps and 10 laps of the MUGA.

Year 3 did a mini fitness class consisting of 10 x star jumps, 10 x squats, 10 seconds running on the spot and 10 seconds arm circles.

Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed participating on star jumps, side steps, high knee jogging on the spot and playing the bean game. Unfortunately, the weather was against us most of the day which led to a change in plans but we managed to get outside for a short time with a little drizzle. We had great fun.

Year 5 completed 10 minutes of a fitness routine designed for children. They did stretches, cardio exercises and strengthening exercises.

Year 6 got competitive and challenged each other on speed and agility, making fitness fun.

Year 6 and Year 2 also had a fun fitness PE lesson with Miss Conway in the hall, the music was loud and there were lots of red faces 🙂

All of our children finished their lunchtime by doing a Yoga Breathing exercise. This helped our children to be calm and ready for their afternoon of learning.

Fantastic effort everyone!

National Fitness Day – 23rd September 2020

16th September 2020Cheryl Henderson

National Fitness Day encourages the nation to celebrate the fun of fitness and physical activity across the UK and will take place on Wednesday 23rd September 2020.

The day brings the nation together to remind us why it’s good to move, highlighting the role that physical activity plays in helping us lead healthier, happier lives both physically and mentally.

Why is National Fitness Day so important?

We want to inspire our children and families to move a bit more and better understand the benefits of an active lifestyle. It is not only proven to improve our physical health, it also has an incredible effect on our mental health, our confidence, and our social connections.

In 2020 we want to demonstrate the inclusive power physical activity can have by celebrating how ‘Fitness Unites Us’.

Keep a lookout for more updates on this.
