Year 2- Sewing Hand Puppets

7th December 2020Cheryl Henderson

On Monday, the children in Year 2 have been making their own animal puppets. Over the term, the children have designed an animal and have followed their design to create their felt puppet. Every child has worked hard to use their sewing skills to make their final product.

Anger Awareness Week

1st December 2020Cheryl Henderson
Anger Awareness Week
We have lots of emotions. At different times, we may be happy, sad, or jealous. Anger is just another way we feel. It’s perfectly OK to be angry at times — in fact, it’s important to get angry sometimes. BUT anger must be released in the right way. Otherwise we will be like a pot of boiling water with the lid left on. If the steam doesn’t escape, the water will finally boil over and blow its top! When that happens, it’s no fun for anyone.
Monday 30th December 2020 will see the beginning of Anger Awareness Week here at Stanhope Primary. The children will be learning that it is OK to feel angry and how to cope and behave when they are feeling angry.
Miss Coils has also found some great resources for our families, carers and parents on the topic of anger. The booklets below have information to support the understanding of why we get angry and there is a self-help guide to coping and controlling our anger.

Accelerated Reader

1st December 2020Cheryl Henderson
Accelerated Reader is a piece of software which schools use to monitor the children’s practice of reading. Stanhope Primary staff and pupils are excited to use this daily with the children. The children have been working really hard in order to achieve points.
We would like to a say a HUGE Well Done to the children who received their first Accelerated Reader certificate last week. These pupils have earned 5 points or more.
We wonder who will be next….
Keep up the reading everyone!

Year 4 -A2 W4

23rd November 2020Cheryl Henderson

What a busy week for Year 4!

In English this week, we worked as a team to discuss our spelling pattern ‘cian’ and played a loop game. The children have also completed writing a letter to Grandma Krank (from George’s Marvellous Medicine). They self edited their own work as well as peer marked. Some great discussions with one another and lots of positive praise. Some children volunteered to share to the class too!

In Maths, we began to look at coordinate grids. We tried hard to remember to rule ‘Walk along the ground, then climb the ladder’ to help us with the x and y axis.

We took part in the Google Meet session with Year 6. We listened to their speeches and voted for our House Captain and Vice Captain. It was great fun and lovely to see so many faces across the school on our screen.

Year 4 took part in the Santa Paws competition. We have had a great response from our families. We would like to THANK YOU for your support. This is supporting a great cause and we know they will be thrilled by the time and effort put in by both the children and the adults at home.

Year 4- Design Technology Autumn 2, Week 2

13th November 2020Cheryl Henderson

The children in Year 4 are beginning to feel all Christmassy.

We have begun our Christmas activities- stitching a Christmas stocking. Yesterday, the children practiced threading their needle. They persevered well- well done! You can see the children practicing their running stitch before applying this skill to the fabric.

Year 5- World Science Day – 10th November 2020

11th November 2020Cheryl Henderson

World Science Day
After thinking of Scientific questions, Year 5 were introduced to the importance of Science in our world today. We gave the children some names of important job roles in the Science world.

👨‍🔬

The children were then tasked to match the scientist to their appropriate image. They then researched and learned about their scientist’s role in the development of Science across the world. To finish we created posters imagining that one of the Scientists was coming to give a talk at our school, showing what we had learned.
