Thurston – Day 4

10th March 2023S Office
On our final full day here in Thurston we finally had snowfall. Nevertheless, we made the most of every minute.
Langdale and Grizedale started the day by going to Cathedral Quarry – it was stunning. The children experienced caving and a walk too.
Langdale spent the afternoon climbing and orienteering.
Grizedale completed an obstacle course blindfolded – team building and finished the day on the climbing wall.
Yewdale went ghyll scrambling, then back at the Centre they climbed, completed the trim trail and did some orienteering too.
We are all in high spirits, some children even wish they could stay even longer!!
It’s been an amazing experience, but we are also looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow. We should be home around 2:30-3pm. But further information will be given on our journey home.

Thurston – Day 2

10th March 2023S Office
Day 2
Langdale enjoyed a mountain day climbing The Old Man of Coniston in glorious blue skies. The scenery was spectacular and the enthusiasm and speed of the group gave them the nickname of ‘The Sonics’.
Grizedale started their day by canoeing on Coniston Water followed by fire lighting and a hot chocolate around the fire. They then jetty jumped and finally finished with orienteering.
Yewdale trekked to Cathedral Quarry, team building trust in the darkness. They then went kayaking and jumped into the lake too!! Brave stuff.
The whole group are in really high spirits and their enthusiasm has been faultless.

Thurston – Day 1

10th March 2023S Office
Today we spent time getting our rooms and equipment organised. Doing our chores and spending some time in the barn playing games.
Langdale went down to the lake and jumped in off the jetty into the freezing water. Grizedale and Yewdsle had a woodland walked under a bridge.
After evening meal we enjoyed a moonlit trek into the woods and looked at the constellations. It was amazing.

House Competition 2 ’23’

2nd March 2023A Rogers

We held our second House Competitions of this academic year – in Phase 2 and 1 we united to compete in Sportshall Athletics. Each team completing relays, javelin, long jump, chest push and speed bounce events.

The Phase 1 and 2 Quiz included the children worked together to answer quiz questions around maths, English and general knowledge topics. They then worked together to find locations around the world on a map.

The Phase 1 and 2 STEM Challenges: The Phase 1 Challenge was to make the biggest paper chain possible in the time limit given. The children had a sheet of paper, two pairs of scissors, a glue stick and sellotape. The rest was down to the organisation and production of the team. We were so impressed with how well the children worked together to engineer their paper chains. They had fun and definitely took on the challenge.

Phase 2 had to design, make and launch rockets, with the longest distance reached being the winners.

Phase 1 were really were competitive when completing various relays.👏🏻🌟🏆🏅👍🏻😀

Here are a small selection of photos from the various events…please see Facebook for more.

Overall Winners were Yellow House.

Tyne and Wear Dodgeball Finals 2023

20th January 2023A Rogers

WOW!! What a day!! Our A Team were crowned County CHAMPIONS and our B Team Runners-Up in the Tyne and Wear Dodgeball Finals, held at Tyne Met College today.

The players were absolutely tremendous throughout the day, with the A Team undefeated and the B Team only losing to their counterparts.

The A Team now progresses to the NORTHERN REGIONAL FINALS!

Our B Team were also awarded the Sportsmanship Award – it was lovely to hear of their kindness and support of the other teams from the staff of their rivals today. Fantastic.

Congratulations to both teams who played with great skill, determination and a good sporting attitude too. Their hard work and practice for many weeks certainly has paid off.

I’m personally extremely proud of them all. Lots more practice ahead for our winning team too!
